subject

When we could choose our subjects.

A 'subject' is the topic that you are learning at school or college. Math and science are examples of subjects.

Notice the following:

1. We do lots of different subjects.
   
2. Next year I can choose what subjects I can learn.
   

business studies

I studied psychology, English literature, and business studies.

'Business studies' is a subject in school or college that teaches how the world of business works.

Notice the following:

1. I would like to study business studies when I go to university.
2. I think he takes business studies in his spare time.
   

leaving

My best memory! Leaving.

When you 'leave' somewhere it means that you go away from it.

Notice the following:

1. I am not leaving yet. I am staying for another hour or so.
   
2. I am leaving next year to go backpacking.
   

space

In a space of a couple of weeks.

In this case, 'space' refers to the period of time between two things. It can also talk about distance between two things.

Notice the following:

1. I will see if I have enough space in my diary to fit you in that week.
   
2. We can space it out over the next few weeks if you would prefer.
   

nightmare

It was a nightmare.

When something is a 'nightmare' it means that it is not going well or is a complete disaster.

Notice the following:

1. The whole day was a nightmare.
   
2. My work schedule is a nightmare at the moment. I am very busy.
