The Parcel
Marion
I got a parcel in the post this morning. I was really excited because I love getting the parcels in the post. I love getting letters too but I don’t know, there’s something special about a parcel, especially when you don’t know what’s going to be inside it. So I opened the parcel this morning and there, just in time for Christmas, and everything is a big huge thing of Toblerone Chocolates, which I love and also, a six-pack of Tayto’s Cheese and Onion Crisps. Now, Tayto’s is an Irish company, and so it’s an Irish brand name and these crisps or potato chips, maybe as other countries call them, these crisps are absolutely the best crisps in the world. There is no competition. I think if you ask any Irish person, they’ll tell you the same thing, so there’re real, quite a strong flavor, I think but really cheesy, em, but it’s funny because I don’t, I don’t usually like crisps. I’m not a big crisp fan, but these cheese and onion Tayto’s, I’ve just finished the first packet and it really makes me feel, makes me feel closer to home, I …my friends, this is the taste of home. They’re so good. You should really try some.
just in time
So I opened the parcel this morning and there, just in time
for Christmas, is a big huge thing of Toblerone Chocolates.
'Just in time' means that something gets done at the last
minute.
Notice the following:
- We arrived just in time to catch the train.
- You are just in time. I thought you were going to be
late!
six-pack
A six-pack of Tayto’s Cheese and Onion Crisps.
A 'six-pack' is a multi-pack of a product that you can
purchase that contains 6 of the same items. Sodas frequently
come in six-packs.
Notice the following:
- I will buy a six-pack of beer and take it to the party.
- If you buy a six-pack it is usually cheaper than if you
buy them individually.
brand name
Tayto’s is an Irish company, and so it’s an Irish brand
name.
A 'brand name' is the trade name of a company or a product.
The brand name can refer to the maker of clothing, food or
necessary objects.
Notice the following:
- We still have to think of a good brand name for our
product.
- I think the brand name is protected so we could not call
our product the same thing.
not a big fan
I’m not a big crisp fan.
When you are 'not a big fan' of something it means that you
don't really like it.
Notice the following:
- I am not a big fan of country music.
- I do not think he is a big fan of chocolates so perhaps
we can make him a cake instead.
taste of home
It really makes me feel feel closer to home, this is the
taste of home.
'A taste of home' means that something reminds you of where
you come from.
Notice the following:
- I like films that are set in England as they give me a
real taste of home.
- Sometimes when we feel lonely we go out to an American
restaurant for a little taste of home.
