Ngữ pháp So, Such

A. Ví dụ so và such trong tiếng Anh

Chúng ta sử dụng so + tính từ/trạng từ so stupid so quick so nice so quickly Ví dụ: - I didn't like the book. The story was so stupid. - I like Liz and Joe. They are so nice.

Chúng ta sử dụng such + danh từ. such story, such people Chúng ta cũng sử dụng: such + tính từ + danh từ. such a stupid story such nice people Ví dụ: - I didn't like the book. It was such a stupid story. (Tôi không thích cuốn sách đó. Thật là một câu chuyện thật nhảm nhí.) Chúng ta nói: such a ... (không nói: a such) such a big dog (không nói: a such big dog)

B. Sử dụng so và such với tính từ/trạng từ

So và such làm cho ý nghĩa của tính từ (hay trạng từ) mạnh hơn:

- It's a lovely day, isn't it? It's so warm. (= really warm) (Quả là một ngày đẹp trời phải không? Thật ấm áp.) - He's difficult to understand because he speaks so quickly. (Thật khó mà hiểu anh ấy bởi vì anh ấy nói quá nhanh.) Bạn có thể sử dụng so...that... - The book was so good that I couldn't put in down. (Cuốn sách đó hay đến nỗi tôi không thể bỏ xuống.) - I was so tired that I fell asleep in the armchair. (Tôi mệt tới mức đã ngủ gật trên ghế.) Ta có thể bỏ that trong những câu trên: - I was so tired (that) I fell asleep.

- We enjoyed our holiday. We had such a good time. (= a really good time) Chúng tôi thích thú những ngày nghỉ của chúng tôi. Chúng tôi đã có những giờ phút thật thú vị. Bạn có thể sử dụng such...that... - It was such a good book that I couldn't put it down. (Đó là một cuốn sách hay đến nỗi tôi không thể bỏ xuống.) - It was such a good lovely weather that we spent the whole day on the beach. (Thời tiết đẹp đến mức chúng tôi đã ở cả ngày trên bãi biển.) Ta có thể bỏ that trong những câu trên: - It was such lovely weather (that) we...

C. Sử dụng so và such với nghĩa 'like this'

Chúng ta cũng có thể dùng so và such với nghĩa like this (như thế, như vậy):

- I was surprised to find out that the house was built 100 years ago. I didn't realise it was so old. (as old as it is) (Tôi rất ngạc nhiên phát hiện ra ngôi nhà được xây dựng cách đây 100 năm.) (Tôi không ngờ nó cổ đến như vậy.) - I expected the weather to be much cooler. I didn't expect it to be so warm. (Tôi đã nghĩ rằng trời rất lạnh. Tôi không ngờ thời tiết lại ấm áp như vậy.) - I'm tired because I got up at 6 o'clock. I don't usually get up so early. (Tôi thấy mệt vì đã phải dậy từ 6g. Tôi không thường dậy sớm đến như vậy.)

- I didn't realise it was such an old house. (Tôi không ngờ đó là ngôi nhà cổ đến như vậy.) - The house was so untidy. I've never seen such a mess. (= a mess like this) (Căn nhà thật lộn xộn. Tôi chưa bao giờ thấy một sự bừa bãi đến như vậy.) Bạn cũng nên để ý tới thành ngữ no such ...: - You won't find the word "blid" in an English dictionary because there is no such word. (= this word does not exists) (Bạn sẽ không tìm thấy từ "blid" trong từ điển tiếng Anh vì không có từ nào như vậy.)

D. Cách sử dụng so long/far/much/many và such a long time/...

Bảng sau liệt kê các ví dụ minh họa cách sử dụng của so long, so far, so much, so many và tương ứng là such a long time, such a long way, such a lot (of):

so long - I haven't seen her for so long I've forgotten what she looks like. (Tôi đã không gặp cô ấy lâu tới mức quên mất hình dáng cô ấy như thế nào rồi.) so far - I didn't know it was so far. (Tôi đã không biết là xa đến thế.) so much, so many - Why did you buy so much food? (Sao bạn mua nhiều thức ăn quá thế này?)

such a long time - I haven't seen her for such a long time. (không nói 'a so long time') (Tôi đã không gặp cô ấy từ lâu lắm rồi.) such a long way - I didn't know it was such a long way. (Tôi đã không biết quãng đường lại xa đến thế.) such a lot (of) - Why did you buy such a lot of food? (Sao bạn mua thức ăn quá nhiều thế này?)
