Bài 1: What do you say in these situations? Use look/sound/feel + as if ... Use the words in brackets to make your sentence.

1. You meet Bill. He has a black eye and some plasters on his face. (be/a fight)

2. Christine comes into the room.She looks absolutely terrified. (see/a ghost)

Ngữ pháp cách sử dụng As if, As though, Like

I. Ý nghĩa cấu trúc as if và as though

Cấu trúc AS IF/AS THOUGH có ý nghĩa là: như thể là…, cứ như là… thường dùng để mô tả tình trạng của một sự vật, sự việc như thế nào đó, hoặc mang ý nghĩa mỉa mai hành động, sự vật, sự việc nào đó.

Ví dụ:

Với ý nghĩa việc mô tả 1 sự vật, sự việc: Ken sounds as if he is worried.

Dịch: Giọng Ken nghe cứ như là anh ấy đang lo lắng vậy.

Trong trường hợp này, giọng anh ấy nghe có vẻ lo lắng thực sự, và người nói đang miêu tả lại sự việc.

Với ý nghĩa mỉa mai: Ken acts as if he were our boss.

Dịch: Ken cư xử như là anh ấy là sếp của chúng ta vậy.

Trong trường hợp này, người nói có ý mỉa mai Ken là anh ta không phải sếp của họ, nhưng anh ta cư xử như sếp của họ.

II. Cách dùng và công thức cấu trúc AS IF và AS THOUGH

*AS IF/AS THOUGH đi với các động từ chỉ giác quan như look, sound…

Khi AS IF/ AS THOUGH đi với các từ chỉ giác quan như: look, sound, smell, taste, feel

Cấu trúc: S + V + as if + S + V

Lưu ý, mệnh đề trước mệnh đề as if chia ở thì nào thì mệnh đề sau as if chia theo thì đó.

VD: Jennie looks like she is going to faint. (Jennie trông như là cô ấy chuẩn bị ngất xỉu vậy, và thực tế là nhìn Jennie trông rất yếu, giống như sắp ngất thật.)

* Cấu trúc AS IF/ AS THOUGH diễn tả, mô tả tình huống có thật

Ý nghĩa: Các tình huống có thật ở đây có thể hiểu là các sự vật, sự việc rất rõ ràng, và việc sử dụng cấu trúc As if/As though đóng vai trò như mô tả, so sánh cho sự vật, sự việc.

* Cấu trúc AS IF/ AS THOUGH ở thì hiện tại: S + Vs/es + AS IF/AS THOUGH + S + Vs/es…

* Cấu trúc AS IF/ AS THOUGH ở thì quá khứ: S + V-ed + AS IF/AS THOUGH + S + V-ed…

Ví dụ:

Let’s do it as if it’s your last chance. (Hãy làm nó như đây là đây là cơ hội cuối cùng của bạn vậy.)

* Cấu trúc AS IF/AS THOUGH diễn tả tình huống không có thật ở hiện tại

Cấu trúc As if/As though trường hợp không có thật có nghĩa là nó diễn tả những tình huống giả định, không có thật trong hiện tại.

Cấu trúc: S + Vs/es + AS IF/AS THOUGH + S + V(ed)

Ví dụ:

After hearing our plan, they looks at us as if we were crazy. (Sau khi nghe xong kế hoạch của tụi tôi thì bọn họ nhìn tụi tôi như là tụi tôi bị điên vậy.)

Lưu ý: Sau As if/As though, động từ tobe sẽ sử dụng là WERE với mọi chủ ngữ

* Cấu trúc AS IF/AS THOUGH diễn tả tình huống không có thật ở quá khứ

Cấu trúc: S + V-ed + AS IF/AS THOUGH + S + V-p2

Ví dụ:

Kenny freaked out as if he had seen a ghost. (Kenny hoảng sợ cứ như là anh ấy nhìn thấy một con ma vậy.)

The boy ate as if he had not eaten for days. (Thằng bé ăn cứ như là nó đã không ăn gì trong nhiều ngày vậy.)

III. Cách sử dụng khác của AS IF/AS THOUGH

Tuy nhiên, có một số trường hợp As if/As though không tuân theo các nguyên tắc trên, đó chính là: Sử dụng TO +V hoặc một cụm giới từ đi sau.

Ví dụ:

Jane moved her lips up as if to smile. (Jane nhếch môi cứ như là để cười vậy.)
